Welcome to the first episode of Chase Dahl's custom TOD for X-Wing,
Operation: Header Fist. This archive should contain the following files:
README.1ST -- What you're reading now. (Good boy!)
MAP1.BMP -- A current situation map, in .BMP format. Peruse this, using
the viewer of your choice, along with the file below...before
playing the missions.
BRIEF1.WRI -- A text file containing a detailed briefing of the current
background and situation.
TOD11.XWI, TOD11.BRF -- The mission and briefing texts for mission 1
TOD12.XWI, TOD12.BRF -- " " " " " " 2
TOD13.XWI, TOD13.BRF -- " " " " " " 3
Here's what you need to do to get the TOD going.
First, make a backup of the following files under the \XWING\MISSION dir:
DEFECT.XWI, DEFECT.BRF
ID-RECON.XWI, ID-RECON.BRF
WXRGARD1.XWI, WXRGARD1.BRF
Name these files whatever you like, but I'd recommend something like
DEFECT.XWO, DEFECT.BRO, etc., so you can recognize the files.
Now copy the all the custom missions over to the \XWING\MISSION dir,
like so:
COPY TOD*.* C:\XWING\MISSION
Now, to rename the custom missions so they are recognized by X-Wing.
RENAME TOD11.* DEFECT.*
RENAME TOD12.* ID-RECON.*
RENAME TOD13.* WXRGARD1.BRF
And there you go! Remember, only the _first three missions of TOD 1 are
currently changed_, so STOP when you complete the third custom mission!!
Don't worry, the rest are to come, with more detailed briefings and maps.
Rename your backed-up X-Wing files to their proper names (just substitute
.XWI and .BRF as appropriate) to restore TOD 1 to its original state.
Now examine the map and read the detailed briefing, and have fun!
Some acknowlegements in order:
* Neal Westfall. His incredible editor allows us to bend X-Wing to our
will, and extend its life immeasurably. If you have XMB, and haven't
registered, what are you waiting for?
* Robert Delinsky. If it wasn't for him, I'd still be blundering around
the byzantine X-Wing briefing structure. A BIG hand to him.
* The X-Wing squadrons on CI$. A great bunch of guys.
* Ministry. Great stuff to create brutal missions to.
* And, of course, Lucasfilm, without whom...blah blah blah, you get it.
Later days!

**** Addendum:
Included in this archive are two actual pilot's of Compuserve's X-Wing
Squadron: "True" (Blue 16), "Sparks" (Blue 15, and Rob Delinsky himself),
and lastly, "The Missing" (Blue 8--uh huh).
If you are a current Blue Squadron member, then make sure you get your .PLTs
in to me before the next episode!
If you are interested in the X-Wing Squadrons and are not a CIS subscriber or
haven't looked into yet, do so. We're the biggest bunch of X-Wing freaks
around!
on Compuserve: GO FSFORUM (flightsim forum), Area 9, space combat.
